Hubbard, Kathleen Ann "Kathy" May 29, 1945-July 30, 2024 It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Kathy Hubbard wife, mother, grandmother resulting from complications of a fall. At her passing, she was surrounded at her ICU bedside by the love of her family. Kathy lived in Plymouth, MN. Kathy was born to Herbert and Viola Kroening in Manhattan, KS on May 29, 1945, 79 years ago. The family moved to Wausau, WI where she graduated from Wausau High School. Following high school, she attended the Columbia School of Nursing in Milwaukee, WI and continued her nursing career in Chicago, IL as a labor and delivery nurse. While in Chicago, she met Jack Hubbard on a blind date; they married ten months later on November 2, 1968 in Wausau. Following completion of his graduate work, Jack and Kathy moved to Louisville, KY where she continued working as a nurse while Jack attended medical school. During that time, she raised two of their three children - Kristin and Alicia. Following medical school, they moved to Burnsville, MN while Jack completed a neurology residency at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine. During that time, their third child, Mark, was born. Kathy continued her nursing career as a Lamaze instructor. She also continued her education, receiving a bachelor's degree from the College of St. Francis. Kathy volunteered with the Assistance League Minneapolis/St. Paul and became one of its first chapter presidents. She enjoyed playing bridge and golf, but her greatest joy was her seven grandchildren. Kathy looked forward to those special times with them, giving Hershey Kisses, making gingerbread houses, taking them shopping for school clothes, going to Disney World, and trips to New York, San Francisco, and Washington, DC when they became teenagers. She loved football and looked forward to school football games, first with son Mark, then grandsons Zachary and Charlie. She looked forward to family gathering times at their cabin on Cross Lake and more recently in The Villages, Fl. She and Jack wintered four months out of the year in The Villages, where she got a hole-in-one last year. Kathy loved traveling. They had just returned from a wonderful Mediterranean cruise to celebrate 55 years of marriage. She treasured her friendships. Despite serious medical challenges over the past decade such as a blood cancer, and persistent chronic shingles pain requiring a pain pump as well as a recent dislocated/fractured shoulder, she remained amazingly upbeat and a true friend. Kathy loved her time with "the girls," be it a simple luncheon or get togethers in South Carolina, Florida or wherever "The Babes" and "Divas" decided to go. The world is dimmer without the radiant brightness that Kathy brought to life. We will deeply miss the beauty of her soul and spirit. Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Herb and Vi Kroening, aunt and uncle Bea and Bill Krieser, as well as cousin Jim Koch. Family mourning her loss include her husband, Jack, children Kristin Soo (Jo), Alicia Barnick (Chris) and Mark Hubbard (LeeAnn), and cousin Sharon Koch. Grandchildren missing grammy are Zachary Barnick, Charlie Barnick, Annabelle Barnick, Alex Soo, Austin Soo, Charlotte Hubbard, and Benjamin Hubbard. We are especially grateful for the excellent care provided by her doctors and staff in the Trauma Neuro ICU at North Memorial Hospital as well as the pastoral support from Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church. A private service for the family will be held at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church. A Celebration of Life will be held later, date and place to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please donate in her name to the Assistance League Minneapolis/St. Paul or to your favorite charity. www.Washburn-McReavy.com
