Most OSRS players use the Runelite client for its extensive plugin library. To help you get the most out of your gameplay, we’ve compiled a list of some of the best Runelite plugins, organized into four categories:
- Visual Plugins
- Quality of Life Plugins
- Skilling Plugins
- PVM Plugins
Before we dive into each category, it’s important to mention that most of these plugins require access to the ‘Plugin Hub’. The Plugin Hub is essentially Runelite’s marketplace where third-party developers can upload their plugins. All plugins found in the Plugin Hub are safe to use and approved by Runelite. You can find the Plugin Hub by clicking on the plug-like icon in the top-right corner of your Runelite settings.
Now, let’s take a closer look at each category and the top plugins they offer.
Visual Plugins
These plugins don’t provide any benefit outside of making the game and client more aesthetically pleasing.
117HD
Plugin hub? | Yes |
By far one of the most popular plugins, 117HD allows you to play OSRS in HD graphics. This is a top-notch plugin for anyone who isn’t a fan of the old-school style.
Here’s with 117HD off.
And here’s with 117HD on!
GPU
Plugin hub? | No |
An alternative to 117HD is the GPU plugin. Which takes the default OSRS graphics and smoothens them via anti-aliasing. Furthermore, you can increase the draw distance and also unlock your FPS in the plugin.
This is my personal favorite as it doesn’t drain your PC’s resources as much as the 117HD plugin and retains the old-school look.
Skybox
Plugin hub? | No |
Skybox changes the skyline from black to blue or any color of your choice.
Resource Packs
Plugin hub? | Yes |
With this plugin, you can change the HUD layout of your Runelite Client. If you’ve ever wondered how YouTubers get their weird-looking layouts, this is how.
Quality of Life plugins
These are must-haves to improve your gameplay.
Menu Entry Swapper
Plugin hub? | No |
This plugin allows you to modify menus, and it’s by far the most used plugin out there!
By default, it has certain settings toggled on such as changing the left-click from ‘talk’ to ‘bank’ on banking NPCs.
But you can also use it to customize menus for items, NPCs, & objects whenever you want.
Make sure ‘Customizable left-click’ is toggled on first.
Now we can change the menus for items by holding SHIFT and right-clicking on that item.
Here I’m changing bones from ‘bury’ to ‘use’.
And I can also do this for NPCs & Objects.
For example, I can do this while training construction to make left-click building possible!
Quest Helper
Plugin hub? | Yes |
The Quest Helper does exactly what the name suggests, helping you out with quests. It tells you which items you need, highlights the correct dialogue options, knows where you are in the quest tells you what the next step is, and even shows you where to go on the minimap.
It feels like cheating, but it’s totally legit. Questing has never been easier, a must-have for anyone who doesn’t particularly enjoy questing.
I have a guide on the quest helper if you need more info.
Key Remapping
Plugin hub? | No |
Enable WASD camera movements and swap F keys to number keys.
Bank
Plugin hub? | No |
The bank plugin is turned on by default in Runelite, but you should make sure to toggle ‘keyboard bank pin’ so that you can use your numpad to type in your pin.
Bank Tags
Plugin hub? | No |
Enable this plugin to add additional bank tags to the left-side of your banking interface.
Bank Tag Layouts
Plugin hub? | Yes |
An add-on for the aforementioned Bank Tag plugin, which helps ‘organize’ your bank tag. Right-click on the bank tag and select ‘enable layout’ then drag the items in the order you wish.
You can also use the white arrows to import your current loadout into a bank tag!
Item Prices
Plugin hub? | No |
This simple plugin allows you to see the Grand Exchange price of any item on your bank.
For irons, this can be changed to the High Alch value as well.
Banked Experience
Plugin hub? | Yes |
With this plugin, you can see exactly how much experience you have banked for any skill based on the items you have in your bank.
Idle Notifier
Plugin hub? | No |
This plugin notifies you when your character is done with a task. For example when you stop chopping a tree. Great for AFKing!
Picture in Picture
Plugin hub? | Yes |
This is an exceptional AFK plugin for anyone without a second monitor. Whenever you tap outside of your Runelite Client, a small window will pop up showing what your character is doing.
Logout Timer
Plugin hub? | No |
Increase your AFK time (e.g. while splashing) by changing the logout timer to up to 25 minutes.
World Hopper
Plugin hub? | No |
We frequently have to hop worlds to dodge PKers and crashers or purchase items from a shop. The ‘World hopper’ plugin makes this easy by allowing you to set up a keyboard shortcut to hop to a previous and next world. You can even filter these worlds by p2p, region & type.
To hop to a specific world, type ‘::hop 330‘.
Entity Hider
Plugin hub? | No |
Entity Hider allows you to hide players, pets, NPCs & even yourself from the screen.
This has a number of useful functions, for example when you are training at the Blast Furnace and want to remove the other players to make your screen less cluttered.
Skilling Plugins
Time Tracker
Plugin hub? | No |
Time Tracking simply tracks your birdhouses, tree patches & herb patches in the background so you don’t have to. You can even enable notifications!
Time Tracking Reminders
Plugin hub? | Yes |
This is an add-on for the Time Tracking plugin that simply prints visuals on your screen so you definitely don’t forget to go on that birdhouse run.
Make sure to change the settings to only show those things you want it to show (e.g. herb patches & birdhouses) and maybe favorite it so you can easily find it and turn it off whenever you don’t need it.
Construction QOL
Plugin hub? | Yes |
Construction QOL allows you to change the number keys that you use to build while training construction.
For example, by default, you use the ‘6’ key to build a Mahogany Table, but you can change this to ‘1’ by setting the input to 6 and output to 1 in the configuration.
The full use of this plugin is explained in my Construction Training Guide.
Any minigame plugin
Pretty much every minigame in OSRS has a helpful plugin that can be installed from the plugin hub. Plugins such as ‘Guardians of the Rift helper‘, ‘Mahogany Homes‘, ‘Tempoross‘, ‘Rogues’ Den‘, and ‘Hunters Rumours‘ are must-haves for their helpful overlays and clickboxes.
PVM Plugins
Ground items
Plugin hub? | No |
This plugin assigns a color to items on the floor based on their value. This makes it easy to see important drops when PVMing.
You can completely customize the colors, assign lootbeams, and also hide items you don’t want to see.
Tile packs
Plugin hub? | Yes |
With tile packs, you never have to worry about setting up your own ground markers again. Just look up the boss you are about to face, and enable the tile pack for that boss. Easy!
Boosts information
Plugin hub? | No |
This plugin simply tells you which skills are currently boosted. Always good to see when you have to pot.
Tile Indicators
Plugin hub? | No |
This plugin highlights which tile your character will end up on, and also your ‘current’ tile. Many PVMers use this plugin to see their ‘true tile’ as it’s helpful to see where your character really is while it’s moving around a boss room.
In the example below, my character is running towards the pink tile. While it looks like I’m on a certain tile, the cyan tile shows me where I really am, not where it appears I am. This is known as the true tile.
Loot Tracker
Plugin hub? | No |
The Loot Tracker is a must-have plugin that for some reason is turned off by default.
This feature keeps track of the loot you received from monsters and logs it for you.
Great for figuring out just how dry you are going on a drop so you can complain about it later on Reddit ;).
Anti-Drag
Plugin hub? | No |
With anti-drag, you can prevent your mouse from moving items in your inventory when you try to quickly switch gear.
A must-have for bossing and PKing where you need to switch gear a lot.
NPC agression timer
Plugin hub? | No |
NPC Aggression Timer is a plugin that tracks how long your opponent will remain aggressive. As you may know, aggression only lasts 10 minutes in OSRS. So after 10 minutes, you have to leave the area and run back to reset the aggro.
This plugin not only tells you how much time is left, but also prints a line on your screen so you know exactly where to run to to reset the aggro.
This is a great plugin for AFKing sand crabs and also slayer training.
Status bars
Plugin hub? | No |
Change the left and right bar around your inventory into prayer and health bars. Helpful for those who struggle to pay attention to their health/prayer levels.
Inventory setups
Plugin hub? | Yes |
This is a loadout plugin that essentially allows you to save gear loadouts for different activities.
The way it works is you fully gear up for a boss fight, and then click the green + to add a new setup.
The plugin will automatically save your equipment, inventory, and rune pouch.
If you enable the icon on the left ‘bank filtering’ your bank will automatically filter for your loadout.
This plugin has a ton of functionality and for a full setup guide, I recommend you read the developer notes.
Nightmare Zone
Plugin hub? | No |
The Nightmare Zone plugin notifies you when you need to sip an overload or when your absorption potions are running low.
A must-have for anyone doing AFK combat training at the Nightmare Zone!
Configure the settings to enable or disable notifications for power-ups to your preference.
Fight Cave Waves
Plugin hub? | Yes |
This plugin adds an overlay to your screen whenever you enter the fight caves and tells you which monsters you can expect in your current and next wave.
A helpful plugin for anyone who wants to get a fire cape!
You can also set it to only use the common names for the monsters in the fight cave. If toggled, it will say ‘Ranger’ instead of ‘Tok-Xil’.
Any boss plugin
There are a ton of bossing & raiding plugins that will give you helpful overlays & info while PVMing. Some must-have examples are: ‘The Gauntlet‘, ‘Zulrah Helper‘ & ‘Tombs of Amascut‘. Always check the plugin hub when you start grinding a new boss!

Installing all these plugins will definitely boost your Quality of Life while playing OSRS using the Runelite client. I urge you to always check the ‘Plugin Hub’ for new plugins whenever you start a new minigame, raid, or boss as those are always super helpful!
